I was a little skeptical buying these as other reviewers said plenty of worrisome statements, none of which I found true.
The color was more copper than we liked it, so we just painted it flat black. The wire surround around the light bulb is solid black from the manufacture BTW. We wanted it plugged in via a cord, so bought the ones with the dimmer that are on this page as well. Bought dimmable LED lights from Home Depot.
As far as the quality of the light fixture, it is as good as any other you buy nowadays. It looks good and has many options for mounting it.
If you have electrical boxes on the wall you are wiring it to, you will not be able to have the wire dangling as shown, however, that is easily rectified by buying a length of cord and gluing it to the rear of the pulley. This would be no big deal.
I took mounting hardware for the box behind it, and simply screwed that into the wall. It was very easy to put up.
These are not plug and play. You need to have an electrician, or know about wiring to install these either adding a cord, or into the existing box in your wall.

I almost didn't buy this because of a few critical reviews. If you a looking for a rusty metal relic barn-find - this is NOT it. If you are looking for a well made interpretation of a rusty metal relic barn-find - you found it!

This is a well made working replica of a rusty pulley light you might find from 75 years ago - this is one is probably a whole lot safer. The pulley is made from wood and well painted - looks and feels very authentic. The rest of the piece is made from metal, just like a modern light fixture, but patina via creative painting.

Some reviewers seemed put-off by having to install this? Perhaps they wanted to plug it into a wall? It is setup just like any light fixture. It needs to be wired to electricity. It has provisions for mounting to a standard electrical box, and you could easily make a safe, wall mount version that has a plug on it. Would make some awesome bed-side scones.

For $20 I can't imagine anyone not giving this 5 stars - unless you are expecting some out of Great Uncle Papa's barn. From a distance - hard to tell.

I get lots of compliments on it when people see it. All I did was put a longer cord on it and it was perfect!
